Ranao Women leads in gender based programming for newly elected brgy. officials
RWCRC conducted Gender and Barangay Protection Order Orientation or Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) to 32 barangays in 2 municipalities of Lanao del Norte: Bacolod (24 barangays) and Linanao (8 barangays). The orientation aimed to teach barangay officials how to protect the rights of women and children who are victims of abuses and domestic violence.
During the orientation, RWCRC promoted Justice and Healing (J and H) Team Meeting which is a new approach in dealing with gender based violence wherein survivors of abuses and their perpetrators together with their families are gathered for a dialogue which is geared towards reconciliation and settlement.
According to Rizalina Amesola, this approach was introduced to fast track the resolution of cases especially that there are a lot of cases pending before the courts. Any person who are willing to help the victims can be trained of J and H Team Meeting approach. “This approach however has limitations which means that this approach does not cover cases of rape and other heinous crimes,” she added.
After the series of orientation, RWCRC was able to train and inform 320 newly elected officials from the said barangays.
